There are certain basic home security aspects that must be addressed before you proceed to the installation of advanced security systems. The first things that you must pay attention to are the doors to your home. Doors must always be strong to provide protection and they must be impossible to open in any way that is harmful to you. Doors must also be made from hard to break materials and if required reinforced with an internal cover plate. It is also advisable to install a steel plate on the outer side of the door, especially close to the lock area. Besides the door, the frame must also be hard and not easy to break or damage. The frame must be set against the wall so as to be very hard to remove. Door locks depend on the type of door as well as your budget. Ideally, you must have at least two door locks. These door locks must be impervious to breakage or lock picking. In addition to regular door locks you might wish to use electronic keyless door locks. Make sure that all access panels to keyless door locks are away from any openings, such as for ventilation.

Sliding door locks tend to be more insecure than other types of door locks. This is because the doors can be lifted from their tracks. This means that there has to something that prevents the door from being lifted in such a manner. Patio door locks and pin locks are good examples of such a security measure. Another important thing is that if the sliding doors are made from glass then make sure it is reinforced glass, otherwise burglars might break it instead of bothering with the door locks. Laminated glass is the best material if you must have glass sliding doors. This type of glass is nearly impossible to break. If you are using glass doors then make sure the door locks or alarm system is clearly visible. This tends to deter burglars.

It most often happens that the most secure features often cause the greatest inconvenience. For some reason technology has not yet reached the point where convenience and security go hand in hand. The closest you can come to this ideal is to use keyless door locks. Electronic keyless door locks are a good choice nowadays as they permit adding different codes for different people so that every one has a unique access to the door instead of a single universal code that might be misused if it got out.
