If the story of the three little pigs was written today, our little friends would have had a wider and better choice of home building materials than just straw, wood and bricks. The range of products that can be used to build homes has never been better. In most cases, a home is built with a combination of these products. Here are some of the home building materials that are being used today. - Fabric - While fabric has been used to create tents for many years, it is now being used with the tensile architectural technique to create larger structures with fabric membranes. - Rock - One of the oldest home building materials, rock is particularly dense and therefore provides extremely good protection. The issue with this home building material is that it is extremely heavy and requires heavy machinery and intense labour. - Wood - While natural wood has been one of the main home building materials, dimensional lumber is what is really used today. This makes it easy for homes to be made in a more uniform manner. - Concrete - Made of a mixer of home building materials like composite and cement, concrete can be reinforced with steel rods to make it stronger. Using this home building material requires moulds that need to be created for block creation. - Metal - Relatively more modern, home building materials like metal are used to create large structures. Steel and iron are the most often used metals with titanium, chrome, gold and silver also being used at times. Metal is also being used now to create prefabricated metal homes. - Glass - One of the most common building materials used in corporate offices, glass is also making its mark among home building materials. Stained glass, coloured glass, frosted glass and more are being used to create curtain walls or decorations. - Foam - Polystyrene or synthetic foam is among the various home building materials that have become popular recently. Used mainly for creation of partitions, this material is relative cheap. - Plastics - Though not as part of the structure, plastic is among the home building materials that are used behind the scenes. In plumbing pipes and hoses, plastic is to be seen everywhere now.
